fledgling birds

fledgling birds

10:00 until 6:00 tomorrow morning. new at 6:00, we will take a live look at the falcon nest high atop the cathedral of learning. a lot of people are worried about the new falcon chick. it was pulled from the nest.

andy sheehan explained why. reporter: of the brood of recently hatched falcons atop the cathead after of learning where one of its flight feathers had not grown. but that didn't stop the bird from trying yesterday afternoon.

the baby falcon couldn't fly, but it managed to glide from the cathedral of learning down to this courtyard where it was discovered by pitt students. they contacted the campus police and called the game commission. when i arrived, it was

standing on the ground. it did try to fly a little bit. but it is not able to get any lift off the ground. reporter: and so, the commission officer took the bird here to the animal rescue league's wildlife center in verona for evaluation and

possible therapy. after they take a good look at him, they will be able to come up with a game plan for what will happen in the future. reporter: perhaps, the feathers will grow enabling the falcon to fly. or it will find a home at the

national aviary or some other educational facility for a protected life on the ground. sad if he won't be able to fly. yeah. it is unfortunate. but that is how nature works sometimes.

reporter: either way, the falcon will survive, but rather than being grounded, hopes are it will take wing and spend the rest of its days in the air.
